I have done a poor job keeping up.  Have some pictures to compensate!

Recovery and Sick Days

I'm doing very well with my recovery from surgery, to the point that when people ask me how I'm doing, I'm back to the automatic, "Fine, thanks."

But just to balance it out, Jane is sick right now.  Which stinks.  Yesterday we were going to go to Meltdown, this annual book/music fest for kids, and I think she would have had a great time.  But instead, we stayed home and she gave lots of snuggles, watched Toy Story, and got her nose wiped a LOT.

She's pretty far in to potty training now, even with being sick.  She wears diapers pretty much only at night and most of the time when we're going in the car.  We even took at trip to my grandma's last weekend and she only went through two diapers over the four days!

OK, pictures!

The snow is melting, even though it snowed again yesterday.  Brisco's getting out for more walks and they're getting outside to play at daycare more often, too.  Jane had a good time at a park earlier in winter and I think we should visit it again on a nice day soon.

Jane did a good job traveling up to Brutus last weekend, but it was exhausting.  I had to carry her diaper bag (which I had to bring, even though she hardly needed the diapers!) and our rolling bag, and the carseat.  She wanted to walk, which was lighter for me than carrying her, but it was also slower.  On the way out, people offered to help us, but people were not so kind on the way back.  We made it, but I hope not to have to travel without Andy again when there's so much to carry.

She had a great time visiting with everyone, and especially liked all the dogs that were around.  She still talks about the dogs, mostly Matt's dog Honey.  We were at the hardware store yesterday talking about our dog, and I asked her to tell the clerk what our dog's name was, and she said "Honey."

There are some more pictures from the trip but I don't have them handy.  Some are on the ipad, which Jane is playing with right now, so I wouldn't dare take it from her.  More pictures to come eventually.  I'll try to get better with updating, sorry!

Blebs

I know I'm way behind.  I have an excuse though, I spent nine days in the hospital and had surgery on my lung.  I had a spontaneous pneumothorax, or, my lung collapsed for no reason.  They thought I could recover with just a chest tube, but I turned out to need surgery.

I'm home now and have had my mom come out, and now Andy's mom is here helping.  I can lift Jane but have been sharing the duty.  I think I'm recovering pretty well and even got to the grocery store yesterday.  I get winded if I carry Jane up the stairs and then read her a story, though.

Anyway, Jane is doing well, especially considering that I was gone so long.  Let me see if I can find a few pictures.

Oh, and "blebs" are the air bubbles one gets in his or lung when it collapses.  What I had to have removed was actually bigger than a bleb.  A super-bleb?

Unfortunately, Jane, my mom, and Andy all got colds while I was in the hospital.  But Jane felt up to modeling this dress that Great-grandma Agnes sent her for Christmas.
I won't say that Jane is napping now, because no mom would ever jinx it like that.  But we're all trying to take it easy and get back to a somewhat normal routine.

Sixteen months

...and totally nailing it.  On our trip back to Michigan at the beginning of the month, Jane asked to go to the potty, and she's been basically potty-training herself ever since.

We've been sitting her on the potty since she was nine days old (but who's counting?) so she's definitely familiar with the concept.  She's been doing a better and better job of letting us know what she needs, so she's been wearing underwear at home for the past few weeks.  She's still having accidents, but she's really doing a great job.

She's saying a bunch more words lately, and responding to questions, usually with "Mm-hmm" or "Nope."

We lost power on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, which also meant losing heat and water.  I've never lived anywhere where losing power meant losing water too, so we didn't think to fill our pitcher or water glasses or anything.  Thursday during the day we went to the lab, knowing that they'd have power, and then we went to the Leckies for the holiday meal as planned.  We hoped that we'd return to a warm and powered house, but we did not.  We called a few places to find a pet-friendly place with a vacancy, so we loaded everyone up and went to the Days Inn.  Jane went down for bed relatively easily, but was up around midnight and then thrashed in my bed with me for the next five hours.  We were relieved to get our power back around noon on Friday.

We took Jane out for a walk yesterday (once we knew we'd have a warm house to go back into) and then I made some hot chocolate for us all.  Really, it was warmed slightly-cream-colored sweetened milk that might have resembled a chocolate flavor.  But she seemed to enjoy it.

She looks kind of unimpressed, don't you think?
I tried to get a picture of them holding hands, but when Jane heard the camera, she let go.

Halloween and Pan de Muerto

First of all, I need to announce my fame.  I was on the radio last Friday, winning the "Spanish word of the week" on 93.9.  The word (phrase) was "Pan de muerto," which means Bread of the Dead, somehow related to the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead.  But the important thing about winning that is that I got a certificate for two free burritos.  Which we ate and enjoyed a few nights ago.

On to pictures.

I take Jane trick-or-treating in at businesses in a nearby town.  Andy couldn't make it, so we recreated it at home for him.  Her favorite part was dropping candy into her bag.  And, once we got home, putting a bowl on her head.
