Summer holiday

Jane's school year ended last week. She gets six weeks off for summer, different than the U.S. schedule. I'm looking forward to not walking 5+ miles a day to/from school for a while, but I'm also suspecting I'll gain some weight during this time!

Alice is finally into something of a pattern of napping during the days. The summer break will help with that, too. A big part of the problem was that she would fall asleep in the carrier on the way back from Jane's school, and then she wouldn't want to nap later. I can even put her down awake for nap!

She wakes up (too) frequently at night, but she is getting better at everything else. This morning we slept until 8:30. And she only woke up at 9:15, 10:30, 1:15, 3:45, and 8:30. She can and will do better--that's our next obstacle to tackle.

Five Months

Alice is five months now! She's regularly rolling to her tummy (including getting stuck on it at night) and is getting closer to being able to sit unassisted.

Jane's just got one more full week of school. She had a good group of kids in her class this year. We've really seen improvements in her reading. It's cool to see how far she's come!

Last week's picnic in the park. Andy forgot where shorts go.
Jane joined and completed (in just two days!) a summer reading challenge at the library. She got a medal and a certificate for reading six books.

Yesterday, Alice and I went to a church cafe with a play area for babies and toddlers. I chatted with a few other women and Alice was pretty interested to watch the other babies. She liked the different toys too. We didn't stay too long because she has not been napping well, but it's close to home so we'll be back.
Andy has been putting Alice down for bed. We're to the point where he puts her in her cot and closes the door! She fusses for a bit but goes to sleep. She's still hit-or-miss during the nights, but we are headed in the right direction. Today I will try the bedtime techniques to try and get her to nap during the day. She fights and fights it.

Uncle Keith comes to visit soon!!!
