A Visit from the West Coast

Dick and Wendy came out to visit last weekend.  Jane was a bit sick through it, and Andy too, and now it's taken me down.  It's surprising how long it's taking Jane to shake it.

But lots has happened since then: she started crawling and slept through the night a few more times!  Even with being sick, she's sleeping really well.  Luckily her cough isn't keeping her awake (though it wakes me up most times, and then I listen for her for a few minutes).

I stayed home with her today because I'm not feeling great and last night she seemed worse and even threw up at dinner.  The tricky part about that is that it was probably just a bite of food going down wrong, but coupled with her other symptoms, we decided she shouldn't go to daycare.  She's doing better than last night, I have a sore throat, but the most strenuous part of the day so far has been rescuing the dog who got his leash triple-wrapped around the tree outside.

On to the pictures!

 Wait, let me grab that!

Check out that gut!  Waiting for our table at a restaurant in Brattleboro, VT.  We were in their upstairs biergarten overlooking the Connecticut River.
 Self-explanatory

 Everybody's smiling!
Swinging.  She was NOT so sure about it.
How long do I have to sit here?
 Down the slide
 Yayyyy!

Is this working?  Is it taking pictures?
I guess it took a few.

"That's not how..."  "No, I got it!  Don't worry!"

Mother's Day Hike

Last weekend, we went for a hike.  We're planning on going again today, but Jane had a bit of a rough night and a hard time going down for nap, so we'll see how it plays out.

Either way, have some pictures!

Jane is even more amazing!

JANE STAYED IN HER CRIB THE WHOLE NIGHT!!

Jane is amazing!

The biggest news from today is that I was able to put Jane down for a nap in her crib!  I think we were all completely surprised that it worked.  I can't express how I was feeling when I crept down the stairs.  I was nearly in tears because I was so surprised and excited and proud!

On to the pictures!

Eating pizza is serious business.
Well...
Maybe not so serious.

We had our first hot day, so Jane got to wear her Jurassic Park romper.
The Peras gave us this t-shirt.  It's got "patches" and "buttons" on it that say things like "The Stay-up-Lates", "Death to False Milk", "No Nap", "Anti-Crib," "Bedtime Sucks", "Question Authority" and some others I can't read/remember.  Doesn't she look like a kid here and no longer a baby?

In true child fashion...

Jane loves the Lego bucket more than she loves the Legos.

She also wakes up with a sweaty head sometimes, which is fun to style.
 Rock bagok!
These PJs are 2T.  That means for a two-year-old.  They're only a bit big.
We had people over for tacos on Sunday.  I suppose I could have taken pictures of more than just Jane, but it didn't occur to me.  Oops!  Anyway, it was fun, and the rain even mostly held off and Jane got to ride in her car for a bit while folks hung out on the patio.
 Jane and Lindsey
We've started doing sleep coaching of her first wakeup, now that she's going to sleep on her own at the beginning of the night.  Tonight will be the third night.  She hasn't figured it out yet, but last night was better than the first night, so we're making progress.  In fact, I heard Jane wake up around 10:30 but I ignored her for a while, and she managed to fall back to sleep!  Hooray, Jane!

She's still not quite crawling, but Andy thinks she moved herself backwards on purpose a few times.  She's been able to move backwards for a long time, but it never seemed like she knew it was happening.  She's also standing (with assistance), as you can see in the above picture.  She's taken a handful of steps.  She's making more and more sounds.  Andy said she said "Mom" and turned to look for me yesterday.

I can't remember if I mentioned she's decided to be too cool for baby food.  The grown-up foods she's eaten include beans, homemade pizza, pasta, yogurt, cheese, bread, Cheerios, oatmeal (not the powdered baby kind), apple, green beans, corn, and rice.  Probably more.  Our CSA share just ended for the winter and the summer one will start up in a few weeks.  One of the first things they always have is pick-your-own peas, and I'm really excited for her (and us!) to have those.

Until next time!

Jane and Grandpa

I never shared this picture from Thanksgiving in Michigan with Jane and Grandpa John.  Oops!  She looks so fat and baby-like!  Five months old there, nine months now.
In other Dad-news, Jane said Daddy yesterday!  She's been very vocal lately and certainly making the 'dadadadada' and 'mamamama' sounds, but Andy said she looked in the mirror while he was holding her, looked at his reflection, and said, "Daddy."

Lots of one-picture updates lately, sorry.  We're having people over this weekend and we'll try to document that a little better.
